For over three decades, the San Francisco Municipal Railway’s Cable Car Division, along with neighborhood merchants and restaurants has jointly sponsored a Holiday Senior Citizen’s Luncheon in December.  The annual luncheon has become an event eagerly looked forward to by many seniors.  For some, this may be their only opportunity to celebrate the holiday season with a hot meal and warm companionship.

The luncheon has taken place at a variety of locations over the years, from the Chinese Recreation Center, MUNI HQ, and the Holiday Inn-Golden Gateway. Transportation for attendees is always provided by special shuttle buses provided by Muni and operated by Cable Car personnel.

​

In recent years, the sponsorship of a decorated cable car has helped off-set a portion of the expenses.  In addition, we would gratefully accept any contributions, but we do particularly request donations of foods.  Any monetary donations or items that could be used as door prizes are also very much welcomed.  All donations are entirely tax deductible.  It is because of the kindness and generosity of many San Francisco businesses that this special event has become such a success throughout the years.

Through the cooperation and volunteer services of many of our own Cable Car Division personnel, the Luncheon has become a rousing success, bringing a much needed boost to these sometimes forgotten people, during what can often be a difficult and lonely holiday season.  We hope to carry on this tradition for years to come.
