So why all the fuss over 162?
It became clear when i started posting pictures (as well as others) that many of you didn't understand what the fuss was over 162 "being back." So with Heritage Weekend 2026 one week away...i thought maybe i should try and explain so you all can hear some of the back story and understand why many of us will be really happy to see it back in service.
Years ago...162 was a regular in the fleet. Long before COVID there used to be vintage F-Market Shuttles on the Embarcadero. It held down one of those runs quite often. It was also quite a popular charter car.
These photos were taken during a "Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys" charter in 2010. yes we received permission to hop on the N line for a brief photo op.
and some photos taken during the "MUNI at 100" Celebration (in 2012)
On January 4,2014 it was involved in an unfortunate accident where a semi made an illegal left turn directly in front of the car. Fortunately there were no injuries
The car returned in 2018 but unfortunately there was some damage to the trucks which necessitated them being completely rebuilt...which lead into COVID...and we all know the stories from there.

I hope this brings you all a little history regarding the excitement of 162 "returning to service." I haven't heard "officially" if we will see it during Heritage Weekend 2026...but i have heard the burn-in miles are complete so that's a good sign!
